Fernbank Science Center announces the long-awaited opening of a new outdoor home for the giants of the Science Center's geological collection. More than 50 huge specimens of rocks and minerals, some weighing hundreds of pounds, are now located in the rear garden areas, near the entrance to Fernbank Forest. There are new explanatory signs to guide visitors through the exhibition. Many of the specimens have been in the collection for 35 years or more, and have been scattered throughout the exhibit halls and hidden in storage rooms. This new effort brings together the most dramatic and beautiful
pieces in one accessible location. The exhibition is now part of the Center's permanent collection.
Wood Or Stone?  These were logs that were part of a living tree. They became petrified and are part of the Giant Rock Exhibit at Ferbank.
